INTRODUCTION
Dr. Nout van Woudenberg currently serves as Cluster Coordinator for ‘Accountability for Ukraine’ at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Kingdom of the Netherlands. Prior to this role, he held the position of Deputy Ambassador at the Embassy of the Kingdom of the Netherlands to Central Asia in Kazakhstan, and has also served in Aruba and The Hague, where he undertook various legal and political assignments.
Moreover, Dr. Van Woudenberg is recognised as an expert in the international protection of cultural property. In 2010, he co-edited and co-authored a book on the protection of cultural objects during armed conflict. His 2012 monograph, State Immunity and Cultural Objects on Loan, explores whether cultural state property on international loan is immune from seizure under customary international law. In 2014, at the request of the International Law Association, he drafted a proposal for a Convention on Immunity from Suit and Seizure for Cultural Objects on Loan.
From 2010 to 2012, Dr. Van Woudenberg served as Chairperson of the UNESCO Committee for the Protection of Cultural Property during Armed Conflict, following his tenure as Vice-Chair of the same Committee from 2008 to 2010.
Dr. Van Woudenberg holds a doctorate in international law.
